چکیده

The development of a versatile tool to quantify magnetic anisotropies in continuous and patterned magnetic thin films is reported. The technique involves measuring the magnetooptic response to a rotating magnetic field. Similarly to mechanical torque techniques, a single measurement obtains both the anisotropy constants and their symmetry axes distribution. The technique has been applied to analyze arrays of submicrometer stripe-shaped Fe ~001! elements with different interelement separations ~s!. For s larger than 1 mm, the anisotropy associated with the stripes is independent on separation, with a value of the effective uniaxial anisotropy constant very consistent with theoretical estimations for these systems. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~00!05637-0#

Magneto-Optical properties of GaP single crystal

The temperature dependence of magneto-optical and magneto-photoconductivity measurements were carried out in the range of (200-330) K. A home made optical cryostat was used for the measurements. The measured room temperature value of the energy gap was found to be 2.211 eV. The temperature coefficient of energy gap was found to be -5.48×10-4 eV/K obtained by the optical absorption method and -4...

Linear and nonlinear magneto-optics of ferritin.

Measurements of Rayleigh light scattering and Cotton-Mouton (CM) effect are carried out at room temperature for 100 mM NaCl solutions of apoferritin/ferritin loaded with 0, 90, 100, 500, 700, and 1500 Fe atoms/molecule. Because of the spherical shape, ferritin macromolecule should not manifest magnetic anisotropy; however, in solution it shows the induced magnetic birefringence (CM effect) and ...

Dynamical Torque in CoxFe3–xO4 Nanocube Thin Films Characterized by Femtosecond Magneto-Optics: A π-Shift Control of the Magnetization Precession

For spintronic devices excited by a sudden magnetic or optical perturbation, the torque acting on the magnetization plays a key role in its precession and damping. However, the torque itself can be a dynamical quantity via the time-dependent anisotropies of the system. A challenging problem for applications is then to disentangle the relative importance of various sources of anisotropies in the...

Intracellular magneto-spatial organization of magnetic organelles inside intact bacterial cells.

Magnetotactic bacteria naturally produce magnetosomes, i.e., biological membrane bound nanomagnets, at ambient conditions. It is important to understand simultaneously the possible size variations and the magnetic behavior of nano-magnets inside intact bacterial cells for both applicational purposes as well as to enhance the basic understanding of biomineralization leading to intracellular nano...

Nanopatterning effects on magnetic anisotropy of epitaxial Fe„001... micrometric squares

Magneto-optic ~MO! studies are performed on regular arrays of Fe~100! micrometric squares, where the elements are patterned with different sizes ~2.5–10 mm! and separations ~0.2–0.6 mm!. When a laser beam is focused inside the patterned structure a Bragg diffraction pattern is produced allowing MO studies on both reflected and diffracted spots. The magnetic anisotropy has been analyzed by in-pl...
